Ministries

Over one hundred years ago, our first members wanted everyone to appreciate Jesus as the Good Shepherd. They wanted everyone to know -

  • The Guide they followed.
  • The Provider they thanked.
  • The Protector they relied upon, and
  • The Center their life was built around.

Today we follow the same Good Shepherd and have been richly blessed at Good Shepherd Church.

We want to share with you our faith and our Lord, if you have no church; we invite you to make Good Shepherd your spiritual home.

Our faith at Good Shepherd is biblically based. We confess God as Triune - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God, our eternal Father, creates all that is. In divine compassion for wayward humanity God sent Jesus, God’s only begotten Son, to pay for our sins and save us for eternity. In our daily fives, God seeks to inform, guide, and protect us through the presence of God’s Holy Spirit God Is all in all, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end of all things.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is a vital part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod. As such, it participates in many world-wide, national, and regional ministries, spreading the gospel through-

  • Mission congregations at home and abroad,
  • Television and radio broadcasting,
  • Colleges and seminaries,
  • The publication of educational materials,
  • Various social ministry agencies and institutions serving the poor, the elderly, the homeless, children and youth, victims of disaster, and the sick.

Praising God is central to everything that happens in the communal experience of Good Shepherd Church. This body of believers gathers regularly to worship God each Lord’s Day. God’s Word is proclaimed and the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion are observed on a regular basis. Additionally, members are encouraged to follow a daily discipline of Bible reading and prayer. Special rites are observed at significant times in the life of parishioners including baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals.

The community of faith at Good Shepherd seeks to foster fellowship and spiritual growth among its members, friends, and neighbors through -

  • Christian Nursery School
